Sidd week 4

It is called an operation "theater" for a reason. There is a stage, there is a director aka chief surgeon, there are actors aka other surgeons and anesthesiologist, they dress up,there are props , there is a audience and there is even music in some operation theaters. I happened to attend the tumor board meeting on Monday  where all the surgeons discuss their cases and get inputs from other surgeons as to how they should approach the case. There were two cases of bladder cancer and I was amazed to see how they were so different pathophysiologically but so similar morphologically after the surgery.  Also, this week I got to observe the medical emergency unit. Five hours there sapped the energy out of me both physically and emotionally and I cannot help but wonder how doctors and medical residents handle it. There were cases like ruptured appendix, dislocated limb, fractured leg and malfunctioning pace maker to name a few. Next week is our first patient for the clinical trial. The excised prostate will be imaged using PET and MRI scans and the images will be correlated to identify the PSMA loci in excised prostate. We ran a phantom this week where we imaged a mouse brain using PET and MRI and correlation will be done sometime early next week. Also, I am excited about being in NICU next week with Dr. Frayer. On a totally different note, happened to see the 4th of July fireworks on Hudson and it was a spectacular sight !!
